I use mcafee antivirus, and as well as being easy to use its very affective. As for spyware i use spy-bot search and destroy, downloaded from there website for free very affective program.
As antivirus try AVG (free) - http://free.grisoft.com/

As spyware removal try Spybot Search and Destroy (free) - http://www.safer-networking.org/

don't just use anything though. Some programs plant fake spyware to find to scare you into purchasing it.
