Xp or vista which is better and which is the best antivirus software?

Xp support ends in 2008, and extended support ends 2014...Vista will be around longer.

Almost any hardware will work with XP...which is as stable and reliable as Microsoft gets, with Vista...you may need to buy new hardware and software

Xp has no "protection software" from Microsoft Vista comes with some protection.

Steady state (allows you to Lock down users so they just can't screw things up) from Microsoft is available only for XP currently

So for stable, fast, reliable use -XP

For longer life and some extra useful features Vista

And the real answer is likely none of the above. Ubuntu Linux is fast, reliable, very virus resistant (Microsoft products are virus magnets!) and it comes with the rough equivalent of photoshop, Office suite and a pile of other stuff...absolutely free..Operating system included. just google ubuntu and see.

And the best antivirus is a combination of informed users and good software.

Macafee site advisor helps you avoid infections from browsing, AVG FREE is good basic antivirus protection, and NOD 32 from ESNET is the best paid antivirus...and has been for some time. Honourable mentions to Kaspersky, F-prot, Bitdefender and Trend Micro PC Cillin.
